FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What are you guys all about?
Simply put, we review comics. That’s it. If you want to know more, look over at our About Page.
How often do you update?
We review one webcomic a week. The webcomic chosen for review is announced on Monday, and our reviewers submit their opinions throughout the week on their own time. Any other reviews are posted whenever our posters feel like it.
What are your criteria for reviewing a comic?
We review based on art, writing, story, characterization, and other aspects of a comic. Webcomics are especially broad, and we try to be rather open to interpretation. Just poor art does not make a poor comic, but not all of our reviewers will look at every comic that comes their way.
However, in general we will not review webcomics that are less than 50 pages, as we feel these comics do not have a significant archive to accurately reflect the comic’s intent. We also are not going to review webcomics that are rather long, such as over 2000 pages, because our reviewers only have a certain amount of time they can dedicate to reading.
Can I recommend a comic?
At the moment, we do not have an e-mail set up for submissions. However, you can stop by our forums and suggest a comic to this thread, if you feel the need. We will announce when public submission is available. Please read the rules posted in the thread and do not go over the limits provided in the previous section.
Where did you guys come from?
Many of us came from the old Webcomic Book Club formerly featured on the site Master Zen Dao Meow. Others were referred from our reviewers, as these acquaintances have previously expressed an interest in comics as well.
Can I join?
At this time, our membership is closed to the public.
Why hasn’t my comment appeared on the site?
Currently comments must be approved before they appear on the site. One of the problems with the Webcomic Book Club, which many of our members were a part of, was the flaming directed towards the reviewers. Our reviewers do this for fun, and we want this to remain enjoyable for both contributors and readers.
Okay, WHEN will my comment show up?
The administrator checks the site every few hours, so your comment should appear within 24 hours of being posted, at the most. However, please keep in mind that if your comment is rude, vulgar, or otherwise incendiary, it will not be approved. We appreciate that all people have different opinions, especially on such a broad topic like (sequential) art, but we believe that there is no need to be inflammatory about such opinions.
Who runs this place?
Technically, Master Flare is the owner of the site. However, ‘Caught Stealing Brains’ is a mutual project with Benor, as Master Flare would not have put together the site if Benor had not expressed interest in returning to the world of comic reviews. They also both thank Mr. Furilius Pitch for his original inspiration, as he created and organized the MZDM’s Webcomic Book Club.
And lastly…
“Caught Stealing Brains”?? What the heck does that mean?
Peskybrain.com’s name comes originates from a quote in the video game “Psychonauts.” “Caught Stealing Brains” is a mangling of another quote from the same game. We feel this name reflects what comics do to us. They engage our minds in another world and act as an escape from reality, whether seriously as a segue to other creative phenomenon or frivolously as a simple time killer. We do not feel that being “caught stealing” our time and attention is a bad thing.
